Debbie Ford Gave Me My Life

Debbie Ford, #1New York Times best-selling author, motivational speaker and my mentor, passed away on February 17, 2013. Although her physical journey is over, the impact she had on me and the millions who read her books, or heard her speak, continues.

In 1999 I saw Debbie Ford and heard her message. She inspired me to get moving again with my life’s vision. In 1995 an emotional event occur that took me away from my mission to support people in recognizing that they had choice, that they were free from their past – whole, perfect, creative, resourceful and loved. Debbie Ford shared and I remembered how much I cared. I recognized what I could do in my present life and caught a glimpse of what my future looked like.

Debbie taught that events in our lives can either stop us in our tracks or move us forward. She knew from personal experience. Her battle with low self-esteem and substance abuse began as a teen and went on for decades before she found the strength and wisdom to change. Debbie spent the rest of her life showing others the way off the path of despair. I share how throughout life we have events, incidents and accidents that create beliefs that either motivate or limit us. With emotional wisdom these beliefs promote responses that move us toward more of what it is that we want.

Debbie Ford was a light that shined, that allowed us to live with our shadows, and motivated us to do more with our lives than hide in the corners of darkness. With her passing I again am inspired to get moving, to share my life’s vision, to motivate others to accept their past, be aware of the present and awaken to their future.

I am in the middle of my life, much as Debbie believed she was, and we do not really know what is in our future. We do know what is here for us in the present, so let’s make the most of it. Let your light shine, live with the shadow you cast and also be grateful for the shadows we are able to live on in. I am grateful to live in the shadow of Debbie Ford, who shared her life’s events, incidents and accidents so transparently, and inspired me and others to do so as well.accept their past, be aware of the present and awaken to their future.

“If you take this journey, I promise you that you’re going to experience more love, more happiness, than you’ve ever had before.” – Debbie Ford, talking about the book *The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True Self (2010), written in collaboration with Deepak Chopra and Marianne Williamson.
